©Most of my Chinese friends don't wear perfume

First of all, there is nothing wrong if you don't wear any perfumes or fragrances though speaking I would recommend women consider at least trying to scent something on for special occasions i.e. cocktail party or a dinner out. Your scent goes hand in hand with your style. Why? Because both reflect your own personality.

Second, if you do wear perfumes or fragrances, then I'd like to share some buying and applying tips with you. Actually one of my friends has recommended and encouraged me to write out these tips for she knows that I am kind of person can't go out my door without putting on my favorite scent. "Most of my Chinese friends don't wear perfume and this would be a great resource to share with them". She said it with something on her mind. Absolutely I meant to offend no one and sincerely wanted to share a real life story with whoever might read this article. The source I use here is from www.kidzworld.com.

We all know scents can be very powerful. Has your nose ever caught a whiff of something and it's brought out an emotion? It happens all the time. You sniff something and think "that reminds me of someone I knew before." Well, somewhere along the line, you have taken an interest in how you smell. That's a good thing. Again, there is no thing wrong if you don't wear any perfume or just apply with a little scent, as long as it's done right. Here are some tips I'd like to share with you.

Picking a fragrance that is just right for you So sniff-out a few different types and go with what you think suits you. Don't be a follower. Remember, scent is part of your personality.

Techniques to putting on perfume and fragrances Believe it or not there is a "technique" to putting on perfume and fragrances. It's simple, really - just put dabs of your favorite scent on your pulse points - the insides of your wrists and elbows, the backs of your knees, and your neck, just below your jaw line near your ears. The reason that this is so effective is because your heart beat is prominent there and the warmth that it creates helps keep the scent.

Do some testing It's always best to get a sample of the smell you dig and try it out for a week or so before committing to a big bottle. Also, fragrances can smell one way in the bottle, or on a friend, and completely different on you. This is because your body chemistry is not the same as someone else's.

Scent overload If you buy perfume because you want to smell a certain way then don't overpower it or mess it up with a bunch of other smells. It's best to stay away from scented deodorant and hair products when wearing a perfume. Otherwise the result is a big stinky mess.

Versatility Don't be afraid to explore all your options. Check out the men's counter too. Also, don't stick to one fragrance all year long. Temperatures affect the intensity of fragrance.

  • DO wear more perfume if you have dry skin. Scent needs oils to last. People with oily skin tend to have stronger fragrance as compared to those with dry skin.
  • DO wear stronger scents in cold weather. Cold reduces a scent's strength.
  • DO wait ten minutes before deciding to buy a new scent.
  • DO purchase a new scent late in the day, when your sense of smell is sharper.
  • DO try scents on your own skin, as everyone's skin chemistry is different. Everyone has their own personal aura.
  • DO choose what complements your natural body odor.
  • DO apply perfume right after you shower or bathe. Your pores will be open and soak up the scent. Best spots to apply perfume: the nape (back) of the neck, inner elbow, cleavage, behind the ears & along the shoulders.
  • Go ahead & spritz some on your hair.
  • DON'T use deodorant soap where perfume is applied.
  • DON'T use perfume near pearl or costume jewelry. The alcohol in perfumes can cause pearls to yellow and can strip the coating off jewelry.
  • Never spray perfume onto silk. It will spoil the silk.
  • To prolong a bottle of perfume, place it in a cool dry place. Exposure to sun can lead to discoloration, smell alteration & evaporation.
  • If you have fallen deeply in love with a perfume that your skin is allergic to, why not use it to scent your bags, purses, hair, jackets (or clothes that are not directly in contact with your skin). That should be some consolation!
  • To test if the skin is allergic to a particular perfume, try this: apply a small amount on the wrist, or the inner elbow or the back of the hand/arm & if there is a reaction after 1 hour, then the perfume is probably not for suitable.
  • Test just 4 different types of perfumes at a time. Too many varieties can be confusing.
